This project explores how playground design can actively encourage cooperation and help children, especially those who are shy, build social connections through play.

Design Concept

A modular playground system that encourages cooperation through interactive inflation

This design was inspired by observing children standing on the sidelines, too hesitant to join the game. It reimagines the essence of playground equipment, breaking away from its form as isolated play stations to become a collaborative interactive interface that encourages multiple participants to engage and activate it together. As more children join in, the system dynamically responds: the more participants there are, the faster the inflatable structure expands, creating a visible reward for teamwork.

How does it work

The core structure consists of modular components: trampolines, inflators, connecting pipes, inflatable objects, walls, and seesaws made from plastic materials.

The core structure consists of modular components: trampolines, inflators, connecting pipes, inflatable objects, walls, and seesaws made from plastic materials.

Children need to manually connect the trampoline to the air pump and interact with it to generate airflow. The connecting tubes deliver airflow to various inflatable structures, which inflate as children jump together. This setup also encourages children to freely assemble different configurations, creating diverse play spaces. From simple inflation challenges to complex modular gardens blending imagination and physical coordination, it allows children to build diverse play environments. This process cultivates essential social skills, including sharing, patience, cooperation, empathy, and respecting boundaries.
